ON SITE REPLACEMENT and CHIP REPAIR INFO
You can explain the reason, but the last statement heard will be "I don't care about safety, I just need someone to come and fix my windshield". Good luck Margaret, we still ain't gonna put you at risk, others may..WE WON'T!!!

It is so frustrating to know that so many people can be duped by something as misleading As windshield repair, or onsite windshield replacement....

"CHIP REPAIR...COSMETIC COVERUPS FOR YOUR WINDSHIELD"
OR
"IF YOU PUT LIPSTICK ON A PIG, IT DOES NOT CHANGE THE FACT THAT IT IS STILL A PIG"

Some glass replacement companies would have you believe that a windshield "repair" will actually bring the windshield back to it's pristine, unaltered state it was before the "chip" or "crack", It Just don't happen Vern, That windshield is damaged and no amount of resin is going to restore the purpose of the intended unaltered windshield, and that is your SAFETY. That "repaired" crack or chip is NOW a weak point that will be the first to go when your airbag deploys or if you are ever involved in a rollover situation. But on the other hand, if that company can get you to agree to a repair, their total expense would be .15 cents for repair material, so who saves? you or the replacement company? Another hard nosed approach to look at is...Is your, or your passengers lives and safety only worth .15 cents??

ON SITE WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENT

In total reality I personally would never have an "onsite" installation....WHY YOU ASK??? Well Vern it's like this, it's the most inefficient form of windshield installation, (pinch weld damage, dirt and debris being deposited into the urethane bed, improper preparation, UV flash curing, old molding being reused, clips broken and not replaced, installs being done in the rain, installs being done when the weather is below 40 degrees), plus the installers have no consideration of your vehicle or your safety, they are just there to "lick'em and stick'em" and get to the next one as quick as possible, the more they do, the more they make, so which is more important to them...your installation or what they can make, my bet is on how much can they make...pop me another cold one Vern.

SUN ROOF PROBLEMS

SUNROOFS: The biggest culprit in leaks. You may assume that when water is present in your vehicle that you have a windshield leak. Such is not always true (unless you have had a "Mobile Installation by the Lick'em and Stick'em Crew", if so then chances are, it may very well be your windshield). Sunroofs have drain holes that remove excess water from the pan, when these holes are plugged from dirt and debris they will overflow creating the presence of water along the top of the windshield, or most likely, in the floorboards of your vehicle. CURE: Have your sunroof inspected, cleaned and tested at least once a year

One of the most asked questions we get is: What is the diffence between glass, and why don't you use after market windshields?? Hope this answer helps.

NON OEM or AFTERMARKET Auto Glass

Considering aftermarket auto glass??
ALL aftermarket windshields DO NOT have the same exact specifications as OEM glass!!  WHY??  The reasons are very simple, aftermarket glass is noticeably thinner and differs in both length and width, aftermarket manufacturers CAN NOT produce the exact specs and safety standards as an OEM manufacturer due to production copyrights.  SAFELITE is a producer of automotive windshields that fall into this aftermarket category, they DO NOT have contracts with any of the automotive manufacturers and CAN NOT produce glass with the required exacting specifications required by the auto manufacturers due to the copyrights. Rental or Lease vehicles WILL NOT accept aftermarket replacements on a "Turn in", Auto Dealerships WILL NOT accept aftermarket replacements for their used, or customer replacements, although independant car lots will sometimes use aftermarket glass on their used units, this is only to cut costs of replacement, saving THEM money and ignoring the purchasers safety.

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) and DEALERSHIP GLASS

All OEM Glass is manufactured with the same exact specifications, including safety standards as required by your favorite vehicle manufacturer, IE: Chevrolet, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, etc.  These of course are manufactured and produced by two companies, PGW and PILKINGTON and is the same exact glass as used by your manufacturers vehicle dealer.

DEALER GLASS

ALL glass purchased from your vehicle manufacturers dealership may have the vehicle manufacturers logo placed on  it (whereas the OEM does not) but this is still the same exact produced replacement as OEM glass.
